How to make a satin ribbon flower

Follow our easy instructions to make a satin ribbon flower attached to a hair clip to create flower hair clip.  Sew it to a hat, shirt or even shoes.

You can make this flower with different widths of ribbon 

For this flower I have used 25mm satin ribbon.  You can make in any ribbon like that matchs your project.  I used Raw silk satin ribbon

You will need

Scissors to cut your ribbon and a candle or lighter to seal your ribbon

7 lengths of 25mm satin ribbon cut to 3cm

7 lengths of 25mm satin ribbon cut to 3.5cm

Needle and thread

Embellishment for the centre of flower.  I used one of our acrylic rhinestone buttons with the shank cut off.

Cut your chosen colour of satin ribbon to 7 lengths at 3cm and 7 lengths at 3.5cm

 

 

 

Then take one side of each petal and cut the end so it is rounded. 

 

  

 

Once you have cut all your lengths.  Seal the ribbon edges with a candle or lighter. 

As you seal the rounded end give it a little pinch to give it a petal look.

 

    

 

Keep your petals seperate so all the 3cm are together and the 3.5cm are together.  We are only going to use the 3cm lengths first.  Take your needle and tread with a knotted end and stitch through the petals.  Over lap your petals as your stitch through the ribbon.  

 

 

 

Only stitch 7 by 3cm petals.  

 

  

 

Gather your thread and pull your petals together.  Then stitch back through the first petal to join the two end.

 

 

 

Pull the thread tight and tie off with a knot.

 

 

 Repeat with the 3.5cm lengths of ribbon

 You know have two flowers one slightly bigger then the other.

 

  

 

 Place the smaller flower onto the larger one.  Turn the top flower so the bottom petals sit inbetween the top petals.

 

 

 

Glue or stitch your two layers together.  Embellish the centre with an acrylic rhinestone and pear button.  I cut shank off and hot glued in place.

 

 

 

Once you start you will have satin flowers everywhere.  Turn them into hair clips, attach to headbands, clothes, shoes hats just about anything that takes your fancy.

You can also make these flowers with different widths of ribbon.  The 9mm satin ribbon flower is very small.
