I have had some fun making a hair clip party hat with 38mm grosgrain ribbon and tulle.
15cm of 38mm grosgrain ribbon
6″ tulle about 30cm long
hot glue
lighter
Needle and thread
felt circle
Hair clip or headband
Start with your length of 38mm grosgrain ribbon
Fold your ribbon on a angle
Then fold the other side back across to make a triangle.
Lift the first flap and put a line of glue across just inside.
Now that your two flaps are glued together you can cut of the excess ribbon.
Turn the hat and push together it will be pointy trim it to round it off.
Then with a lighter seal the ribbon
Take your 30cm length of 6″ tulle and fold over like a fan will be a bit less then 4cm wide.
I held the tulle in place with hair clips.
Take a needle and thread. Will not matter what colour thread you use you won’t see it. Tie off on the end about 1cm in from the edge at the start of your tulle. Do a gather stitch about 1cm from the edge to the other side.
Before your gather the tulle cut along the folded edge of your tulle on the 3cm side
Once you get to the end gather and pull both ends together. You will have the 1cm centre push it up and run hot glue along the gather stitch and push inside your hat to glue in place.
You will need a felt circle about 2.5cm I used a 20c coin and trimmed our 4cm felt circles.
Glue the felt circle to the base of your hat. Take your tulle and pull the layers apart to fluff it up. You can now glue the felt to a hair clip of headband.
I hope your have fun with this hat. If you would like to share please link back to our page.
