Make a Christmas poinsettia flower with ribbon following our easy instructions.
To make a Christmas poinsettia flower with ribbon you will need either grosgrain ribbon or satin ribbon.
I used both 22mm and 38mm grosgrain ribbon. The larger flower is made with the 38mm grosgrain ribbon and the smaller flower with the 22mm grosgrain ribbon.
For these instruction we will use
38mm grosgrain ribbon about 85cm
scissors, needle and thread
lighter or candle to seal ribbon edge or what ever you use to seal your ribbon edge
hot glue
Something for your centre, rhinestone, pearl, knoted ribbon.
Taken your chosen width of grosgrain ribbon and fold over to make a triangle as per the photo and than cut your ribbon to make a square. What lenght you need will depend on the width of ribbon you use. The wider the ribbon the longer the length. If you are using 38mm ribbon you will need about 40 cm.
Once you have cut your square seal the ends. I use a candle. I cut 5 square per layer.
With the ribbon edge top and bottom cut edge left and right. Fold the bottom edge over to creat a triangle and heat the corner edges to seal together.
Once you have sealed the corners together of all your squares.
Push your center down and then fold over.
Fold over but don't line up the edges. You want a gap between the layers. The gap does not need to be exact on each petals. Flowers are not perfect.
With your threaded need stitch through the front of the ribbon and up through to create twe peaks and valley as per photo.
Repeat through each petal.
Slowly pull your thread and gather your petals.
Gather tight and stitch the last petal through the first and tie of with a knot.
Now repeath the whole process and create a second layer.
Hot glue your two layers together making sure not to line up your top and bottom petals.
Embellish your centre.
